If you are into metal working, you can fix this by either welding very small stubs onto the "retaining plate" so that it actually retains the teeth in place or recutting the teeth, but add 1/16 to 3/32 extra length on each tooth. This makes it impossible for the teeth to grab the hammer without being forced into position. After a few dozen staples though, the lips of the hammer where the teeth grab onto and the teeth themselves, wear out and develope rounded edges. When the stapler is new it will catch again and again on it's own. The teeth that draw back the hammer have nothing to keep them in place after each stroke. I looked into where the problem was and it is definitely a design flaw. I could get it reassembled, but only for one staple, just like David. If at all possible avoid the Stanley Sharpshooter TR100. ![]()
